Volleyball 'Canes sweep MSVU, hosting Mounties Tuesday

The Holland Hurricanes women’s volleyball team picked up a straight-sets win in Charlottetown, PEI over the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics on Sunday in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season action, extending their winning streak to seven games.

The Hurricanes won by set scores of 25-17, 25-9 and 25-22.

Abby Hyndman and Sam Gerbig had eight kills each to lead the ‘Canes attack with Zayley Murphy and Kateia Barenaba each adding three.

Marissa Macaulay had a match-high 19 assists along with four service aces and three digs while Dana Trainor led the defensive effort with a match-high 13 digs. Hyndman added eight digs and Murphy had five aces in the win.

The Hurricanes move to 7-0 on the season and sit in first place in the conference standings, while the Mystics fall to 6-2 and in third.

The Hurricanes will close out 2019 with a home game versus the 6-0, Mount Allison University Mounties on Tuesday night at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown; first serve is scheduled for 7:30pm.  This game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was rescheduled due to the poor weather conditions.

The Mounties enter the match at number twelve in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national rankings.
