Soccer Hurricanes welcome Bridgewater striker to roster

The women’s soccer Hurricanes will welcome Emily Lepine to the team this fall. Originally from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Lepine has played the past number of years with South Shore United and Halifax County United; she will be studying in the Sport & Leisure Management program at Holland College beginning in September.

“It just seemed like the perfect fit,” shared Lepine. “As a social person, the smaller atmosphere makes it easier to get to know people and the soccer program will give me the potential to take my game to the next level as a competitive athlete. I will be taking the Sport & Leisure Management program at Holland College which will give me many options for my career path.”

Lepine, a 5’9” striker, has made a name for herself for her offensive accomplishments in recent years, including being the top scorer in the Nova Scotia premier winter league; she was also named a tournament all-star at the 2019 U18 South Shore showcase tournament.

“Although I'm a striker, I'm also versatile and able to play many positions if required. When it comes to my game, I'm fast, very aggressive and have an eye for the goal.”

Hurricanes head coach, Kris McKinnon, believes Lepine can contribute to the team this season.

“Emily brings to our team a high soccer IQ, work ethic and team-first mentality; she will be a key component in our attack.  Emily’s pace and scoring threat will be key to us looking to get back to the ACAA final.”

With her eye on success with the Hurricanes next season, Lepine believes that she can be a helpful and positive addition to the roster.

“Together with the help of my teammates, we will create plenty of offensive chances. I will also bring a positive attitude and good teamwork.”

The Hurricanes were 8-3-1 in the regular season last year, placing them third in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) standings. A semi-final loss to the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics ended their season.

With the upcoming season fast approaching, both fans and players alike are looking forward to the return of Hurricanes soccer.

“I believe with a positive attitude and cohesive teamwork we will be a force to be reckoned with this season; we have our eye on contending for an ACAA championship.”

The Hurricanes will begin their ACAA regular season on Saturday, September 7 at 1pm when they host the St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall.
