Deighan joins soccer ‘Canes this fall

The Holland Hurricanes women’s soccer team continues their preparation for the upcoming Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) season with the addition of midfielder, Paige Deighan, to the roster.

Deighan, of Wilmot Valley, PEI, hopes to secure a spot on the field this season as she begins her collegiate career.

“Holland College is a great fit for me; I am looking forward to beginning the Human Services program as well as playing soccer for the Hurricanes.  I am excited about playing at the collegiate level with a new group of teammates.”

Deighan is a former member of the Summerside United U18 premier team where they went on to become provincial champions.  She also competed as a member of the Three Oaks High School AAA team where she served as a co-captain and was also named a league all-star. When asked about what she feels are her biggest skills, she replied with this.

“I am able to anticipate plays well, seeing the field both offensively and defensively.  I have a very competitive nature, and will bring my best effort to every single game and practice.”

Deighan, 5’7”, will be a dual-athlete for the Hurricanes; she will also join the women’s hockey team this winter.  She was a member of the 2019 PEI Canada Games women’s hockey team.

‘Canes women’s soccer head coach, Kris McKinnon, is impressed with the quality of athlete he sees in Deighan.

“Playing Canada Games hockey, she knows what it takes to play at a high level.  This experience, paired with her excellent work ethic, will allow her to be a valuable member of our program.”

The women’s soccer Hurricanes were 8-3-1 during last year’s regular season, and aim to claim their fifth ACAA championship in team history in 2019. When asked about what kind of team Hurricanes fans can expect this fall, Deighan responded with the following.

“Fans can expect a hard-working team that will play with passion and have a drive to succeed.  If we do this, positive results will follow.”
