Hurricanes ending regular season this weekend

As the Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s volleyball teams prepare to host the 2019 ACAA Championships at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement next weekend, they are scheduled to play four final regular season games this weekend.

The action begins on Friday night in a key match between the women’s Hurricanes and the Mount Allison Mounties; the game takes place at 7pm in Sackville, NB.

The Hurricanes (12-6) and Mounties (12-7) are tied for third place in the ACAA standings and sit just two points back of the second place, UNBSJ Seawolves (13-7).  As these teams battle for second in the standings, a position that comes with a bye to the ACAA semi-finals next Saturday, each match is extremely important.  Keep an eye on Friday’s match as it has serious playoff implications as the end of the regular season draws near.

On Saturday the ‘Canes will return home to setup their final weekend of regular season action.  A 5pm match with the UKC Blue Devils will be followed by a 12pm match on Sunday; both games will be played at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.

The Blue Devils, 8-11 and in sixth place in the ACAA standings, have dropped their only meeting with the Hurricanes this season, a straight-sets sweep on February 9 in Halifax, NS.

The men’s Hurricanes will finish their ACAA regular season on Saturday at home versus the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons at 7pm.

This season the Hurricanes lead the series versus the Dragons, 3-1, earning victories on November 4, November 18 and January 19, with their only loss falling on November 17 in five sets.

The men’s Hurricanes (third seed) are scheduled to take on the UNBSJ Seawolves (second seed) in ACAA semi-final action on Saturday, February 23 at 7pm at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.

The women’s ACAA matchups have yet to be finalized, with the MSVU Mystics having clinched the top-seed prior to this weekend.
