Football 'Canes taking on Tigers in AFL semi-final game

The Holland Hurricanes men’s football team will be in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Saturday for Atlantic Football League (AFL) semi-final action. The ‘Canes will take on the Dalhousie University Tigers at 1pm at Wickwire Field.

Holland College and Dalhousie University each finished the regular season with records of 3-3; the Tigers won the first meeting between the two-teams in Halifax, 28-3, with the Hurricanes winning the second meeting, in Charlottetown, by a score of 28-15.  The Tigers host the semi-final game after a tie-breaker formula was used (Dal outscored the Hurricanes during the regular season 43-31).

It will be a battle of offence versus defence on Saturday as the league-leading Dalhousie Tigers enter the weekend as the league’s top offence, scoring 209 points during the regular season; while the ‘Canes, the league’s top defence, only allowed 105 points against.

The other AFL semi-final game takes place at 1pm in Fredericton, New Brunswick when the top-ranked, University of New Brunswick (UNB) Red Bombers take on the fourth-seed, University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves.

The two winners from Saturday’s game will face off in the 2019 AFL Championship game on Saturday, November 2.
