Island point guard, Logan MacCallum, joining ‘Canes

The men's basketball Hurricanes continue to build their roster for the upcoming season with the addition of Island player, Logan MacCallum.

MacCallum, from York, Prince Edward Island, will be joining the Hurricanes this fall as a point guard; he had this to say about his enrollment and why he felt Holland College was right for him.

“I decided to attend Holland College because it met both my academic and athletic needs. I enrolled in the Sport & Leisure Management program, with the intent to pursue a path in Kinesiology.”

MacCallum played the past three seasons with the Charlottetown Rural Raiders “AAA” basketball team, as well as a member of the PEI U15 and U17 provincial teams; he was also a member of the 2017 PEI Canada Games men’s basketball team.

MacCallum had this to say when asked about what he will be bringing to the Hurricanes this season.

“I pride myself on my court vision, passing ability, as well as defense and shooting. I'm a team player that strives to improve together. I will be bringing a strong work ethic as well as the ability to contribute on both ends of the court.”

Head coach Josh Whitty expresses his joy in adding MacCallum to his program.

“Logan brings a variety of skills to the floor for us next season.  We’re looking forward to having him in a Hurricanes uniform and expect that he’ll make a solid contribution from day one.”

MacCallum, who was named provincial high school tournament Most Valuable Player in 2019, and an all-star in all three of his high-school years, spoke on what kind of team the Hurricanes fans will see on the hardwood this coming season.

“Hurricanes fans can expect us to be an up-tempo team that is always looking to push the ball as we look for another championship.”
