Basketball ‘Canes welcome Tompkins to roster

The men’s basketball Hurricanes at Holland College continue to prepare for the 2019-20 Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) season with the addition of Woodstock, New Brunswick native, Lucas Tompkins.

Tompkins, a 6’0”, shooting guard, will be enrolled in the Sport & Leisure Management program at Holland College beginning in September.

“My decision to attend Holland College was a combination of the option to enroll in the Sport & Leisure Management program and the quality of the basketball program available; both seem like a great fit for me.”

Tompkins was the Woodstock High School Athlete of The Year for four straight years (2016-2019) and has been a member of the U15, U16 and U17 provincial teams in New Brunswick.  At the 2018 U17 Canadian National Championships he led the tournament in three-pointers.

“A strong work ethic is something I will bring to the team next season, as well as my basketball IQ, playmaking and the ability to shoot the ball well.”

Josh Whitty is thrilled with the addition of Tompkins to the Hurricanes roster this fall.

“Lucas brings a variety of skills to our lineup and will be counted on to contribute right away. He’s a top-notch shooter, has a tireless work ethic and has a good sense of the game.”

The Hurricanes are the seven-time defending ACAA Champions after an undefeated season last year of 21-0.

The ‘Canes will hit the court on Saturday, November 2 when they begin their ACAA regular season in Halifax, Nova Scotia versus the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics.
