Basketball ‘Canes add 6’7” forward to roster

With September quickly approaching, the men’s basketball Hurricanes continue to add to their roster ahead of the 2019-20 Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) season. Nathan Anderson, the newest addition to the team, will be joining the ‘Canes this fall.

Anderson, a 6’7” forward from Nassau, Bahamas, will be enrolled in the Journalism program while studying at Holland College.

“I decided to enroll at Holland College because I feel it is the best place for me to grow on and off the court. It meets both my academic and athletic needs and I am happy to be part of the Hurricanes.”

Anderson had a successful high school career, winning two national championships with the C.C. Sweeting High School Cobras in the Bahamas. He will look to find success with the Hurricanes in 2019-20, hoping to make positive contributions to the team both on the court and in the locker room.

“As a forward I bring a lot of athleticism and versatility to the position, but my major strengths are finishing inside rebounding and playing defence, mostly in the interior.”

Hurricanes head coach, Josh Whitty, feels that Holland College will be a good fit for Anderson.

“Nate brings size, athleticism and a terrific work ethic to our lineup.  We’re pleased to add him to our roster and expect him to thrive within our playing style.”

Anderson hopes to help create a team that fans notice both on and off the court, not only for their play but also the impact they have in the community.

“The fans can expect a team that will let their presence be felt on the court and also be present in the community; a team that will get involved with young players on PEI to help elevate their games. I look forward to representing the Hurricanes with pride.”

The men’s basketball Hurricanes, seven-time reigning ACAA champions, return to the court for regular-season action on Saturday, November 2 when they visit the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics in Halifax.  The team will host their home opener on Saturday, November 9 when they take on the University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves.

Hurricanes Basketball Booster Club memberships are now on sale.  For $100, fans will receive a season pass to all men’s and women’s Hurricanes basketball home games in 2019-20, a limited-edition Hurricanes toque, plus a personalized name badge.  For more information, or to sign-up, email hollandhurricanes@hollandcollege.com or call (902) 894-6870.
