Malo and Montes de Oca named Players of the Week

Defensive back, Jack Malo, and running back, Rodrigo Montes de Oca, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Football Players of the Week for the week ending September 22.

Malo, in his second-year with the Hurricanes, recorded two interceptions and a fumble recovery in Saturday’s home opener win over the University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves in Charlottetown, PEI.

From Barrie, Ontario, Malo is currently studying in the Sport and Leisure Management program at Holland College.

Montes de Oca, a third year running back with the Hurricanes, handled the majority of the running game for the ‘Canes on Saturday, rushing for 140 yards on 27 carries in the win. 

Hailing from Mexico City, Mexico, Montes de Oca is enrolled in the Automotive Technology proram at Holland College.

The Hurricanes went on to score a touchdown with just two seconds in the game to pick up the 12-7 win on Saturday over the Seawolves; they improved to 1-1 on the season with the victory.

The ‘Canes will now focus on Saturday’s road game versus the Dalhousie University Tigers (1-1) in Halifax, Nova Scotia; kick-off is scheduled for 7:30pm at Wickwire Field.

The Hurricanes next home game is scheduled for Saturday, October 5 versus the UNB Red Bombers at Alumni Canada Games Place in Charlottetown at 1pm.
