Hurricanes name rugby coaching staff ahead of season

The Holland Hurricanes Athletics and Recreation Department announced the formation of a women’s varsity rugby team last month, and now have named their coaching staff entering the teams upcoming season.

Craig Inward will handle the head coaching duties, while Jordan LeClair and Keturah Fraser have been named assistants.

Inward has served as the head coach of the Montague Regional High School male and female rugby teams since 2016, while also leading the PEI Rugby Union junior women’s program from 2016-2020.

“As with the introduction of any new varsity team we know it will take patience blended with enthusiasm to build a contender,” shared Director of Athletics and Recreation at Holland College, Albert Roche.  “What also helps is a deep passion for the sport along with technical knowledge. We believe we have all the ingredients with Craig, Keturah and Jordan, to build the student-athlete experience and establish a positive women’s rugby culture for the future.”

LeClair enters the role as an assistant coach with experience at the youth rugby level in Charlottetown after a playing career herself, while Fraser joins the staff with experience as a coach at the Westisle Composite High School since 2016.

The Hurricanes will be competing in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) against teams from the University of New Brunswick (UNB), University of King’s College (UKC), Mount Allison University, St. Thomas University (STU) and the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC).

“We are very excited to bring women's rugby back to Holland College,” shared Inward.  “We are looking to build a competitive, high performance, inclusive program. We welcome both experienced and inexperienced players. All an athlete needs to bring is their commitment, and a desire to learn, develop and succeed. We expect our program will reflect positively on the school, the players, and the staff, and we know it will be a highlight of our student-athletes' Holland College experience.”
