The Holland Hurricanes are in Nanaimo, British Columbia for the 2023 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Women’s Volleyball Championship this week. They’re set to begin the championship at 5pm Atlantic time on Wednesday when they challenge the Camosun College Chargers in the quarterfinals.
The Hurricanes earned their place in the championship by winning the 2023 Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Championship last week in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Entering as the third seed, the ‘Canes defeated Mount Allison in the quarterfinals, St. Thomas University (STU) in the semifinals, and the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics in the championship game. The ‘Canes dropped just one set in their three matches during the playoffs.
The Hurricanes quarterfinal opponent, the Camosun College Chargers, are the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) Champions; they defeated the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners in the conference championship match to win the title for the first time in team history. The Chargers finished the regular season as the second seed with a 14-6 record.
The other three quarterfinal matches on Wednesday include the Augustana Vikings (Camrose, Alberta) versus the Lynx d’Édouard-Montpetit (Longueuil, Quebec), VIU Mariners (Nanaimo, British Columbia) versus the Humber Hawks (Toronto, Ontario) and Les Rouges de Saint-Boniface (Winnipeg, Manitoba) versus the Lakeland Rustlers (Vermilion, Alberta).
All games can be viewed live at www.youtube.com/@CCAAsportsACSC.
If the ‘Canes are victorious on Wednesday, they’ll face the winner of the Augustana/Edouard-Montpetit match in the semi-finals on Thursday at 10pm Atlantic. A loss will put them in the bronze medal quarterfinals on Thursday at 5pm Atlantic versus the loser of the same match.
