Saunders and Therrien named 'Canes Athletes of the Week

Women’s badminton player, Isabelle Saunders, and men’s basketball player, Connor Therrien, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 3.

Saunders, a second-year player from Charlottetown, PEI, went 3-5 this weekend in Truro, NS at the recent ACAA men’s and women’s badminton event.  The tournament was hosted by the Dal AC Rams.

In women’s doubles “A” competition, Isabelle went 2-2 with partner Kathrine McEwen.  She then went 1-3 in women’s singles “A” play.

The Hurricanes will be in action on February 16-17 in Sackville, NB when the Mount Allison Mounties host the 2019 ACAA Badminton Championships.

Saunders is a Computer Networking Technology program student.

Therrien, a fifth-year guard from London, Ontario, recorded 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in Thursday’s victory over the Crandall Chargers.  He then recorded 20 points, one rebound, seven assists and three steals in Saturday’s win over the MSVU Mystics.

The Hurricanes are currently positioned at number one in the CCAA National men’s basketball rankings while also leading the ACAA with a regular season record of 15-0.

The Hurricanes return to the court on Wednesday night when they host the Mount Allison Mounties (10-6, third) at 8pm at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.

Therrien is a student in the Holland College Sport & Leisure Management program.
