MacInnis and Menzies named Hurricanes Athletes of Week

Women’s basketball player, Lexi MacInnis, and men’s volleyball player, Nicholas Menzies, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 27.

MacInnis, a 5’9” guard from Stratford, PEI, led the Hurricanes in Saturday’s loss to the UKC Blue Devils; she recorded 25 points while adding five rebounds, three assists and a steal.  This was followed by a 16-point performance in Sunday’s victory over the Dal AC Rams where she also contributed with five rebounds, an assist and two steals.

The Hurricanes are currently 4-9 this season and sit in sixth place in the ACAA standings.  They return to action this Thursday versus the seventh-place, Crandall Chargers, at 6pm at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.

This season, MacInnis has led the Hurricanes, averaging 15.1 points, five rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.1 blocks in 13 regular season games played.

Lexi MacInnis is currently studying in her second year in the Bioscience program at Holland College.

Menzies, a 6’1” setter from Berwick, NS, helped power the ‘Canes to victory on Sunday in a straight-sets win over the UNBSJ Seawolves at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.  In the victory, Menzies recorded 35 assists, three kills and three digs.

The Hurricanes are currently in third place in the ACAA standings with a record of 5-6; they return to action this Saturday when they visit the STU Tommies in Fredericton, NB at 5pm.

This season, Menzies has led the ACAA in assists averaged per set with 8.47.

Nicholas Menzies is currently studying in his second year in the Sport & Leisure Management program at Holland College.
