AOTW | Rebecca Levy Tyler Johnston named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week


Women’s cross-country runner, Rebecca Levy, and men’s baseball player, Tyler Johnston, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 29.

Levy, from New Ross, Nova Scotia, was victorious in her Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) cross-country running debut on Sunday in Truro, NS at the second meet of the season hosted by the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams.

She completed the six-kilometre course in 27:32 on her way to winning the individual competition while the ‘Canes women’s team finished third overall in the meet which featured 34 women’s runners from five ACAA schools.

Levy studies in the Advanced Care Paramedicine program at Holland College.

The cross-country running Hurricanes return to action on Saturday, October 19th for the third ACAA meet of the season hosted by the MSVU Mystics in Halifax, Nova Scotia at Point Pleasant Park.

The ‘Canes host the 2019 ACAA Cross-Country Running Championships on November 2 at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park at Brookvale, PEI.

Johnston, from Cardigan, Prince Edward Island, pitched a complete game on Saturday versus the Saint Mary’s University (SMU) Huskies at Memorial Field at Victoria Park in Charlottetown; the ‘Canes went on to win the game 4-2. 

The second-year right-hander threw 89 pitches over seven innings of work, allowing eight hits and two runs (one earned) while walking two and striking out six.  The win improved his record to 3-0 on the season.

The ‘Canes lead the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball Association (ACBA) standings with a record of 10-2; they have four regular season games remaining which will be played on Saturday versus the St. Francis Xavier University (St. FX) X-Men in Antigonish, NS and Sunday versus the Dalhousie University Tigers in Charlottetown.
