Salary: Starting pay rate for GS-BUS-02: $22.33/hour (salary under review), plus additional 4% supervisory differential for lead hand positions and 6.5% for supervisor positions.

Job Description

Facilities Attendants play a very important role at Parks Canada sites. They are tasked with cleaning and maintaining buildings, facilities and grounds all over these sites. Facilities Attendants usually work in small teams, however, sometimes have more independent work. The right people to fill these positions should take pride in their work and go the extra mile to make sure our visitors have a great experience. Facilities Attendants interact with visitors, answer questions, provide directions and represent Parks Canada in addition to their cleaning and maintenance duties. The duties that Facilities Attendants carry out include:

  • General cleaning of buildings, grounds, visitor centers, campgrounds, beach areas and/or walkways
  • Monitoring the condition of grounds, facilities and equipment and report anything not working properly, things that may be unsafe or operational needs
  • Maintaining and restocking cleaning supplies
  • Responding to visitor questions

Visitor Facilities Attendant Lead Hands with an A1 (lead) role are also expected to: 

  • Lead their team and set the pace for their work crew Visitor Facilities Attendant Supervisors with a B2 (supervising) role are also expected to:
    • Train, schedule, oversee, provide performance feedback, and evaluate their employees
    • Provide direct supervision and oversight for a team of Visitor Facilities Attendants

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

  • EX1: Experience cleaning
  • EX2: Experience in providing leadership - either when supervising employees or through other means such as mentoring, volunteer work, coaching teams, etc. (Lead Hand & Supervisor Only) Applied / assessed at a later date

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • A1: Attention to detail
  • A2: Concern for safety
  • A3: Ability to manage time effectively
  • A4: Ability to read and follow instructions for the use of cleaning products

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • EX3: Experience interacting and dealing with the public
  • EX4: Experience in providing cleaning services in facilities, such as commercial or institutional environments (other facilities may be considered)

Intent of the process The results from this competition may be used to fill positions at PEI National Park, Green Gables Heritage Place and Skmaqn—Port-la-Joye—Fort Amherst National Historic Site in 2026 and future operational seasons. This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions in future years, and with various tenures.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work shift-work, weekends, and statutory holidays, special events;
  • Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements;
  • Work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions.
