November 6, 2017
The Holland Hurricanes travelled to Sackville, NB on Sunday to begin their 2017-18 ACAA regular season with a match against the Mount Allison Mounties.
Set wins of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-15 gave the ‘Canes their first victory of 2017 while the loss dropped the Mounties to 0-3 early in the season.
The Hurricanes used a strong offensive attack led by second year player Megan LeBlanc to pick up the win.
In the second set after being down 20-10, the Hurricanes used a strong service run by Sam Gerbig to help mount a comeback that saw the ‘Canes take the set win 25-23.
The victory positions the ‘Canes in a tie for second place in the standings with the MSVU Mystics leading at 3-0 this season.
The Hurricanes now look ahead to Sunday when they hold their home opener at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement at 12pm against the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons.
The Dragons sit at 0-1 so far this season after a straight-set loss to the UNBSJ Seawolves on Saturday in Nova Scotia.
