Ford goes back-to-back with Fix Auto 300 victory

Darcy Ford of Harrington, PEI, Canada, driver of the number 64, Suck It Up Septic, Ford Mustang for Atlantic Motorsports, picked up his second win in as many weeks on Tuesday, winning the Fix Auto 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

At 300-miles, this is the longest race on the schedule as the drivers tackled the 1.5-mile speedway over 200 laps.

The victory was Ford’s second of the season, moving him to the top of the driver standings through five of 16 races in the 2020 Canadian eMotorsports Series regular season.

“We started with a pretty good package right off the bat,” shared Ford.  “We got the car where we wanted it to be midway through the third stage.  The wreck in stage one was hard to deal with but we fought back and put ourselves in position to win.  Speeding on pit road hurts you, fortunately, I knew we had a fast car and could make up time on the track to overcome our mistake.  Everyone knew the final restart was important to set up your run for the win.”

The following four drivers rounded out the top-five on Tuesday, while also being the only drivers on the lead lap.

Finishing in second was Waylon Brown (#67, Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, Chevrolet), with Shane Cannon finishing third (#88, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, NBR Motorsports Chevrolet), Jacob Nelson finishing fourth (#9, Clarksville, Tennessee, USA, Chevrolet) and Kevin Fenech finishing fifth (#81, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Primary Engines Inc. Chevrolet).

The sixth race in the 2020 Canadian eMotorsports Series regular season takes place on Tuesday, June 30 at Sonoma Raceway, for the Pressed 4 Time 175; this will be the first road course race of the season.

Fix Auto 300 race recap

Pole sitter, Darcy Ford, led the field to green to begin the Fix Auto 300 on Tuesday night but was quickly overtaken by Jacob Nelson on lap three as the two drivers began to pull away from the rest of the field.

As the field spread themselves around the speedway following the first set of green flag pit stops, Ford found himself back at the front of the pack before getting tangled with the 55 car of Trent Neilson, who was not on the lead lap and had spun on the exit of turn two; also collected in the wreck was Ryan Gibson (#23, Morgantown, West Virgina, USA, Chevrolet). Ford dropped to 15th following the accident while Waylon Brown took over the lead as the first stage ended.

The second stage proved to be uneventful, as Brown would lead all 50 laps as we reached the halfway point in the race.

A frantic restart to start the second half of the race featured six cars battling for the lead as they separated themselves from the rest of the pack; Brown continued to hold the lead.

As the third stage progressed, Brown was pressured heavily by Ford and Gibson, eventually dropping to fifth as his car seemed to lack the speed on the long runs; Ford took over the lead.

As the green flag pit window opened, race-leader Darcy Ford was handed a pit road speeding penalty which dropped him down in the field during the third stage.  Waylon Brown would reshuffle to the front of the field to lead as the final stage began.

An incredible restart for Ford with 50-laps to go moved him from fifth to the front of the field as he immediately opened up a substantial lead over the rest of the field and would not look back.

There were three caution flags in the race.
