After three top-three finishes in his first five races of the season, Scott Bailey finally got to victory lane on Tuesday at the Sonoma Raceway in the Pressed 4 Time 175.
The Allendale, Michigan, USA native started from the pole position, getting the job done in convincing fashion in the number 4, NBR Motorsports Chevrolet.
With the win, Bailey punches his ticket to the playoffs, joining Darcy Ford, Jacob Nelson, Waylon Brown and Shane Cannon, who have also earned wins.
“It feels really good to earn the win after putting in the work for Sonoma this week,” shared Bailey. “I really like road courses and Sonoma is our most technical track on the schedule. I was conserving my tires over the last run as Nelson was catching me, I had something left in the tank in case I needed it in the final few laps. It makes me very comfortable knowing I’m locked into the playoffs now; it allows me to try some different strategies over the next ten races in hopes of earning more wins before the playoffs.”
The following four drivers rounded out the top-five; Jacob Nelson (number 9 Chevrolet, Tennessee, USA), Mike Marini (number 42 True North Racin Toyota, Ontario, Canada), Jason MacQuarrie (number 66 Chevrolet, PEI, Canada) and Darcy Ford (number 64 Suck It Up Septic Ford for Atlantic Motorsports, PEI, Canada).
This season, Chevrolet has won four of the first six races.
The seventh race of the 2020 Canadian eMotorsports Series regular season takes place on Tuesday, July 7 at the Chicagoland Speedway, the Factory Downtown 200.
Pressed 4 Time 175 race recap
After a blistering qualifying lap of 1:32 by Scott Bailey, he earned his first pole position of the season, lining up beside the number 42 of Mike Marini.
Bailey showcased his impressive skills, navigating one of the most challenging tracks on the circuit with little difficulty as he opened up a gap over the field from the drop of the green flag.
With a strategy utilized by most of the top finishers, Bailey pitted under green securing his position at the front of the field on the lap 15 restart, while the majority of the field pitted during the caution.
We went back to green with Trevor Kinsey (number 6 Ford, Michigan, USA), Daniel Cudmore (number 2 Logitech G Ford for Hurricanes eMotorsports, PEI, Canada), and Mike Marini battling for position as Bailey pulled away from the field. The strategy remained the same for the number four car, pitting under green prior to the second scheduled caution, relinquishing the lead to Marini, who elected not to pit until the caution.
With 29 laps to go, Bailey led Jason MacQuarrie, Cudmore and Kinsey on the restart as drivers prepared for the longest green flag run of the race.
Bailey would hold the lead until pitting under green on lap 42, eventually retaking the top-spot once the field reshuffled.
With a hard charging Jacob Nelson in his rearview mirror, Bailey had to be at his best in the closing laps to secure his first victory of the season.
There was a total of two cautions in the race.
Here are the official results from the Pressed 4 Time 175 at Sonoma Raceway.
