Lab Assistant - Patient Navigator, Dental Assisting Program

One-year short term position commencing April 1, 2026 (possibility of extension to March 31, 2028)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Patient Navigator provides leadership, guidance, and support to students in the Dental Assisting program within the clinic and lab environments, in support of activities funded through the Oral Health Access initiative.

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the dental assisting program staff and provide guidance to students during lab and clinical activities.
  • Collaborate with targeted populations to ensure programming is culturally responsive and inclusive.
  • Ensure the safety, cleanliness, and organization of lab and clinic environments by enforcing safe work practices, maintaining infection control protocols, and confirming equipment is in proper working condition.
  • Maintain organized student records, assist with attendance tracking, and support required documentation processes.
  • Liaise with dental professionals and industry partners to coordinate student learning experiences.
  • Lead community outreach initiatives as a patient navigator regarding Dental Clinic services offered to a culturally diverse population.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships to support the Dental Clinic services both on and off campus.
  • Track and record program data.
  • Support overall program delivery, operations, and student success.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Level II Dental Assisting certification is required, with a minimum of three years’ recent, relevant industry experience.
  • Strong ability to interact, collaborate, and build meaningful relationships with students, faculty, industry and community partners.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written & oral).
  • Ability to analyze data from multiple sources, compile reports and follow procedures.
  • A high level of proficiency in applicable technologies and software.
  • Prior teaching experience and/or Certificate in Adult Education would be considered assets.

Employment requirements

  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Dental Assistant in PEI.
  • Proof of credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post-secondary institutions and/or their foreign equivalents will be required at the time of job offer.

Salary:

$34.08 - $41.21 per hour (35 hrs/wk)
