Lab Assistant - Medical Support Services

Continuing Part-Time Position: Commencing ASAP to May 8, 2026 (21 hrs/wk)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Program Manager of Health Studies, the Lab Assistant provides strong leadership, guidance, and support to students in the lab environment. The successful candidate will be responsible to:

  • Support Learning Managers by preparing computers, software, and materials for instructional sessions and lab activities.
  • Assist students in the computer lab by providing guidance, clarification, and direction on accessing learning materials, completing assignments, and using program software.
  • Monitor and maintain computer lab safety, organization, and operation, ensuring all equipment and software are functioning properly and seeking ITS support as required.
  • Maintain and organize student files, assist with attendance records, and support documentation requirements.
  • Assist Learning Managers in facilitating learning sessions, correcting assessments, and creating modified training plans as needed.
  • Support curriculum development and learning materials and assist with program quality initiatives.
  • Promote available academic and college supports to students and assist with course mapping/action plans as required.
  • Provide administrative support for program operations, including student requests, documentation, entering grades, booking appointments, and ordering supplies/resources.
  • Participate in College events, initiatives, and overall program operations to support student success.
  • Other duties as required.

*Continuing part time positions work regular weekly hours each academic year.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Medical Support Services diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution is required. Minimum three years recent industry experience in the medical support services field is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, through written correspondence, oral instruction, and presentations.
  • Proven experience coordinating multiple tasks or projects, including prioritizing workloads, meeting deadlines, and supporting team initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, providing guidance, support, and effective teamwork to learners and staff.
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of office software, computerized technology, and experience working in a networked environment.
