SoPA Students Prepare for Annual Spring Showcase

The Holland College School of Performing Arts (SoPA) will present its annual Music Performance Spring Showcase on April 23 at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall on the Prince of Wales Campus in Charlottetown.

The Showcase is the highlight of the academic year for students in the Music Performance program, bringing together both first- and second-year performers for an evening of live music.

“This concert brings the entire program together on one stage,” said Liam Corcoran, program manager for the School of Performing Arts.

“It’s an opportunity for students to share the results of a full year of training, collaboration, and performance, with a live audience.”

The event is open to the public and will feature ensemble performances across a range of contemporary styles, including R&B, pop, jazz, and Latin. Throughout the year, students work closely in these ensembles to develop their musicianship, stage presence, and collaborative skills.

“Having a live audience changes everything for us, it brings a different kind of energy to the performance. It’s also a great way for people to support local artists and be part of the experience,” said Caitlin Robinson, a second-year SoPA student.

The showcase features students from Prince Edward Island, across Canada, and around the world, all contributing to a vibrant and engaging program.

While many SoPA performances throughout the year are free to attend, the Spring Showcase is a ticketed event. Tickets are $20 plus fees and are available through TicketPro. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the music starts at 7 p.m.
