College hires bioscience associate researcher

Holland College has selected Dr. Ibraheem Adeoti to spearhead its new collaborative bioscience applied research initiative as the college’s first applied research associate. The college has been participating in applied research projects for several years and is one of Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges. Last year, the college placed third on the list of top medium-sized colleges in the country, with $2,260,000 in sponsored research.

Holland College partners with industry to solve problems or take advantage of market opportunities by developing new products, processes, or services. Existing technology may be used in new ways, or new technology may be developed. These projects enhance the quality of college programs while providing valuable support to companies in Atlantic Canada.

Dr. Adeoti will work with industry partners on the college’s bioscience technology applied research projects. Natalie Mitton, Vice President, Academic and Applied Research, said his addition to the team will solidify the college’s position as a viable research option in the sector.

“With Dr. Adeoti at the helm, the college will be able to develop projects and relationships, and to capitalize on research funding,” she said. “He will also help support student research projects, participate in industry workshops and connectors, and raise the college’s profile in the bioscience sector.”

Dr. Adeoti completed his PhD and a master’s degree in engineering, majoring in chemical process engineering, at Memorial University, and has his professional engineering designate. He has more than five years of combined experience in biotechnology and the cannabis industry, and hands-on experience in extraction and purification processes. He has a strong background in extraction of bioactive compounds from natural products, Research and Development (R&D), reaction kinetics, process/reactor design, process optimization, chemical thermodynamics, heat, and mass transport and its application in a biotechnology environment.
