Basketball 'Canes add Nova Scotia guard to lineup

Kennedy Frittenburg will wear the maroon and black this season as the newest member of the Holland Hurricanes women’s basketball team.

From Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Frittenburg will study in the Marketing and Advertising Management program at Holland College.

“I’d like to become a realtor and through the Marketing and Advertising Management program at Holland College, I feel I can gain the tools needed to reach my goal,” shared Frittenburg. “I also decided to enroll because it provides me the chance to continue playing basketball while continuing my education.”

Frittenburg was a member of the U14 and U16 Nova Scotia provincial teams as well as with the Park View Education Centre (high school) and South Shore Surf club team throughout her playing career to-date.

She was the Most Valuable Player during her time at the Park View Education Centre, was an all-star at the Lady Panther Classic tournament, was selected to participate in the Great-48 Atlantic Showcase plus graduated with distinction, receiving her Diplôme d'études en langue française (DELF) certificate.

“I believe my strengths as a player are my ball handling, decision making and shooting from the perimeter,” she shared.  “I look forward to bringing a positive attitude and worth ethic into my first season as a member of the Hurricanes while being a supportive teammate.”

New head coach, Chris Connolly, is pleased with the addition of Frittenburg to the roster.

"We are very excited to add Kennedy to our program.  She is a strong student-athlete that will add shooting and stability to our backcourt.”

The Hurricanes failed to qualify for the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) playoffs last season after a 7-14 record.

Frittenburg is excited entering her first season with the ‘Canes.

“Hurricanes fans can expect a group of hard working student-athletes striving to make the Hurricanes family proud,” she said.

The Hurricanes will begin their ACAA regular season on November 2 when they visit the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics in Halifax, NS.  They will play their home opener on November 9 at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement when they host the University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves at 2pm.
