Volleyball ‘Canes in action on weekend with big games

The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s volleyball teams are in action this weekend in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season play; the women are at home on Saturday, hosting their rivals, the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics, while the men are in Saint John, New Brunswick, taking on the University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves on back-to-back days.

The women’s Hurricanes will hit the court at 4pm on Saturday when they host the Mystics at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown.  This is the first meeting between the two teams this regular season.

The ‘Canes enter the weekend at 4-0, sitting atop the ACAA standings, while the Mystics are on their heels at 3-1 and in third.

The Hurricanes are coming off early season wins over the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons (twice), plus victories over the Crandall University Chargers and St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies.  The Mystics have earned victories over the University of King’s College (UKC) Blue Devils, Tommies and Seawolves, before dropping their last game to the Mount Allison University Mounties.

This is a rematch from the 2019 ACAA championship game where the Mystics were victorious last February.

The men’s Hurricanes rebounded with a win over the Seawolves last Saturday at home after dropping their first two matches of the season to the Dragons the weekend prior.  The ‘Canes enter the weekend at 1-2 while the Seawolves are 1-1 after a win over the Tommies, before their loss to the ‘Canes.

Last Saturday’s meeting saw the ‘Canes take the win in four-sets in Charlottetown.

Saturday’s game will begin at 4pm in Saint John, with Sunday’s match starting at 12pm.
