Instructor - Plumbing Block Release

Continuing part time position commencing November 2, 2026

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a motivated and experienced trades professional to join our team as a Plumbing Block Release Instructor. In this role, you will deliver high-quality, learner-centered instruction that supports apprentices in achieving curriculum outcomes and developing the skills required for success in their trade. The successful candidate will combine industry expertise with a passion for teaching and mentoring learners in a safe, engaging, and supportive environment.  Duties will include:

  • Deliver apprenticeship training through classroom instruction, demonstrations, practical exercises, assessments, and self-directed learning activities.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, assignments, and evaluations that support curriculum outcomes.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching and learning strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and learner needs.
  • Monitor student progress, evaluate performance, and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and student records.
  • Develop, review, and update curriculum and learning materials using the College's learning management system.
  • Foster a safe learning environment and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with College staff, Apprenticeship personnel, employers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Participate in program development, planning activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Red Seal Certification in the Plumbing trade is required.
  • Post-secondary education in a related trade or field is considered an asset.
  • Several years of progressive industry experience as a plumber.
  • Extensive working knowledge of the National Plumbing Code of Canada.
  • Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate the interpretation, application, and use of the National Plumbing Code of Canada, including code requirements, regulations, and practical applications in plumbing installations.
  • Working knowledge of the Gas Code of Canada and its application to plumbing and gas installations.
  • Strong communication skills, including oral, written, and electronic communication.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, leadership, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and support adult learners with diverse backgrounds and experience levels.
  • Proficiency with computer applications and online learning platforms.
  • Prior teaching experience, corporate training experience, mentoring, or coursework in adult education is considered an asset.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, continuous learning, and excellence in training delivery.

Employment requirements

  • The successful candidate will be expected to show proof of credentials.
  • As a condition of employment, Faculty must complete a two-year (part-time) Certificate in Adult Education program. To achieve continuing status; all probationary, full or part-time Faculty must successfully complete the program within their probationary period.
