Welding Fabrication Year 1

This program introduces students to the essential welding processes, tools and procedures. You’ll be introduced to rigging procedures, gouging and cutting, blueprint reading, rigging procedures and basic and intermediate welding processes. Emphasis is placed on demonstrating skills through extensive training in our workshop.

You will earn apprenticeship hours each week, and will qualify to write the Level 1 exam towards a Red Seal certification. Our program is a Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) test centre, which gives you the option to participate in weld testing.

Upon completion of Welding 1, you may opt to continue to build on your skills in the second year of the  Welding Fabrication program offered at our Georgetown Centre.

Red Seal Information

redseal

The most successful path to a Red Seal as a welder begins with the Welding program. This program enables you to earn 30 hours of apprenticeship time for each week of training and write the apprenticeship year one block exam, which puts you well on your way to Red Seal certification. Upon graduation, once you are working with a suitable employer, you will register as an apprentice to complete your journey to challenge the Interprovincial Exam. When you register, Apprenticeship PEI will give you credit for the hours earned and block exams passed while you were at Holland College.

The Interprovincial Red Seal gives you the ability to work anywhere in Canada without further testing or certification. The Red Seal is recognized as the Interprovincial standard of excellence for your chosen trade and is the designation most employers will ask for.
