SoPA student stages This Must Be The Place

Luke Ignace, a graduating student in the Holland College School of Performing Arts Theatre Performance program, is staging the first full theatrical production to take place in the college’s new Florence Simmons Performance Hall April 14 to 16.

This Must Be the Place, by Monk Ferris, is a three-act romp set in Pahrump, Nevada. It features all the necessary ingredients for a rollicking farce, including a love-struck hero, a fickle friend, an ingénue, an outraged aunt, and a trigger happy detective. Ignace, who is also directing the play, chose the play to be the first for his production company, Igantius Productions, because of its non-stop hilarity and infectious energy.

“Reading the play privately gets you to the tip of your seat, you turn each page eagerly as your anticipation rises. Seeing it acted out with a cast of nine quadrupled that experience for me. You’ll laugh all night, while constantly wondering what’s to come,” he said.

The play features other students from the School of Performing Arts, which is a partnership with Confederation Centre of the Arts. The cast includes students Aaron Ferguson, Madeleine Mitchell, William Millington, Danielle Lutz, Livia Duncombe, Lemuel Bain, Nicholas Hann, Hannah Morgan and Nikki Kuehnel. Tamara Steele is stage Manager and Jenna Mac is assistant Stage Manager.

Funding for the play came from the Florence Simmons Memorial Fund.

Ignace, who is from Freeport, Bahamas, hopes to attend the National Theatre School in Montreal after he graduates from the SoPA Theatre Performance program. General admission tickets are available online at Ticketpro.ca/TMBTP for $18 each.
