Holland College students and staff raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters
April 7, 2017
Charlottetown, PE – Holland College students and staff hit the alleys during the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake recently, raising more than $8,200 for the organization, and making the college the top fundraising organization for the event.
Nineteen college teams participated, including Hurricanes football and women’s volleyball teams, international students, Business Administration students and staff, and students from Medical Support Services, Accounting Technology, Child and Youth Care Worker, and Wildlife Conservation Technology. In addition, 38 cadets from the Atlantic Police Academy were event volunteers in Charlottetown and Summerside.
Heather Doran, Communications and Development manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters, said Holland College students make value contributions to the work the organization does through fundraising, volunteering, on-the-job training, and summer employment, while also gaining valuable experience.
“We appreciate the amazing amount of support we receive from Holland College students and staff during Bowl for Kids Sake and throughout the rest of the year. This year was particularly notable because so many different programs and student groups were involved,” she said.
Funds raised through Bowl for Kids Sake are used to support Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs. Mentors work with children to help them build confidence and reach their fullest potential.
