Women Hurricanes set to kick off national championship tournament

The Holland Hurricanes women’s soccer team is in Surrey, British Columbia preparing for the 2013 CCAA national women’s soccer championship which kicks off for them on Wednesday at 10 am local time (2 pm Atlantic) versus the MacEwen Griffins from Edmonton, Alberta. The Griffins are the ACAC champions and ranked at number two in the country while the Hurricanes are ranked at number seven.
The Hurricanes are the lone Atlantic team entered in the event after winning the 2013 ACAA Championship as a fourth ranked underdog. The team used Tuesday as a practice day to prepare for the tournament’s first match with the Griffins.

The tournament consists of eight teams in total from across Canada. Besides the Hurricanes and Griffins there are teams from Thompson Rivers University (PACWEST, Kamloops, BC), Kwantlen Polytechnic University (Host/PACWEST, Surrey, BC), NAIT (ACAC, Edmonton, Alta), Algonquin (OCAA, Ottawa, ON), Indiennes d’Ahuntsic (RSEQ, Montreal, QC) and Elans de Garneau (RSEQ, Quebec City, QC) competing.
The Hurricanes will be in action on Thursday but the time and opponent will depend on the result of Wednesday’s game with the Griffins. A win will have them in action at 3 pm local time (7 pm Atlantic) while a loss will have them play at 10 am local time (2 pm Atlantic).
