Volleyball Hurricanes off to strong start with opening weekend victories

The Hurricanes men’s volleyball team welcomed the visiting Universite Sainte-Anne Dragons to Prince Edward Island this weekend to kick start their 2013-2014 ACAA regular season.
On Saturday the Hurricanes and Dragons got things underway at 7pm at the Centre for Community Engagement which seen the Hurricanes take the first two set’s 29-27 and 25-23 in the close match. In the third set the Hurricanes pulled away with a 25-15 victory.
On Sunday the Hurricanes met the Dragons for their second game which seen the Hurricanes win once again in impressive fashion, three games to none. After wins of 25-20 and 25-9 in the first two sets the Hurricanes finished things off with a competitive 26-24 win in the third set.
Jeremy MacKinnon had a strong weekend with seventeen kills in the two games.
The men’s Hurricanes will be in action next on Saturday, November 16th when they visit STU and again on Sunday, November 17th when they are in Saint John versus the Seawolves.
Prior to Saturdays game the Hurricanes women’s team took to the court for an exhibition game with the UPEI Panthers which seen the ‘Canes win the match 3-1. After the Panthers taking the close first set the Hurricanes pulled away, winning the next three sets in impressive fashion.
The Hurricanes women’s team kick starts their ACAA regular season on Saturday, November 9th when they host the Dal-AC Rams at 7pm and at 11am on Sunday, November 10th.
