The Holland College Hurricanes men’s volleyball team will make their second ever appearance at the CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship this week. Their opponents are the top seeded Titans de Limoilou from Quebec City.

The Titans were 14-2 and won the RSEQ title this year while also taking home the national silver medal last season.

The Hurricanes are coming off of their first ever ACAA volleyball championship two weeks ago when they swept the UNBSJ Seawolves in Truro, NS.

The ‘Canes first and only other appearance at nationals was as the host team in 2015 in Charlottetown.

Charlottetown native Dominique Ryan was a member of the Hurricanes in 2015 when they hosted the event and he’s eager to return to the tournament.

“We’re going to stick to what made us successful all year and play our game. With good defence and passing our offence will take care of itself.  It’s always an honour to represent Holland College at a national event, and the guys are ready for the week.”

The Hurricanes finished the regular season in first place with an 11-4 record; they enter the National Championship as the eighth seed.

The ‘Canes led the ACAA in kills per set, hitting percentage, assists per set and points per set.

Individually the ‘Canes had two of the top three hitters in the conference with Gordon Veitch finishing second with 3.05 kills per set while Brett Butler was third with 2.48 kills per set.

CCAA All-Canadian Kenton Dawkins finished eighth in kills per set (2.04), fourth in aces per set (0.36), first in total blocks (38), first in blocks per set (0.76) and third in points pet set (3.0).

Game time is set for 2:00 PM AST on Thursday March 9.
