MBASE | Hurricanes earn victory in international exhibition play

The Holland Hurricanes men’s baseball team travelled to Auburn, Maine this past weekend to play a pair of exhibition games with the Central Maine Community College Mustangs.

Hurricanes 7, Mustangs 2 – FINAL

In the first game, the Hurricanes scored in the top of the first inning, to take an early lead. The Mustangs’ Alex Biron answered with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the first. The Mustangs added another in their half of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Hurricanes scored one in the fourth, four in the sixth, and cemented the victory with another run in the seventh inning.

Veteran right-hander Brady Arsenault (7.0IP, 2ER, 6H, 2BB, 7K) earned the pitching win for the Hurricanes. Damien St. Pierre took the loss for the Mustangs.

At the plate, Matthew Barlow (3-3, RBI, R, SB) led the way for the Hurricanes. Jesse Holman, Tanner Banks, Jeff McPhee, and Brayden Handrahan also added RBIs.

Hurricanes 1, Mustangs 3 – FINAL

For the second consecutive game, Central Maine Community College scored twice in their half of the first inning to carry a lead. The Hurricanes cut the Mustangs’ lead to 2-1 in the third inning, before allowing an insurance run to score in the fourth inning.

Zach Gosse (6.0IP, 3ER, 7H, 2BB, 3K) took the loss for the Hurricanes, despite a strong effort. Noah Salmons worked around three hits and six walks to earn the win for the Mustangs.

Ryne MacIsaac drove in the lone Hurricanes run, plating John Cooper in the third inning.

The Hurricanes will now turn their attention towards theĀ 2017 Canadian College Baseball National Championship, October 26-28 in Oshawa, ON. This championship will feature some of the top CCAA baseball programs in the country.
