MacLeod and Bowden chosen as Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Hockey player Janelle MacLeod and basketball player Chase Bowden have been chosen as Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 13.
MacLeod, a first year defenseman with the Hurricanes from Charlottetown played a great defensive game for the Hurricanes in their 2-0 exhibition win on Saturday. The game was played in Borden, PEI as part of the World Girls Hockey Weekend. MacLeod also scored the ‘Canes second goal in the game. She is a student in the Wildlife Conservation Technology program at Holland College.
The women’s hockey team is in action again this Sunday when they take on the Southside Lynx senior women’s team in exhibition play. The game is at 6pm at the Gateway Arena in Borden.
The Hurricanes will begin their ECWHL regular season on November 2nd and 3rd when they visit the UNB Red Blazers, their home opener takes place on Saturday November 23rd at the APM Centre in Cornwall versus Acadia University.
Bowden, a New Glasgow, Nova Scotia native played strong games on the weekend when the Hurricanes hosted the UPEI Panthers, Acadia Axemen and Mount Allison Mounties in exhibition play in Charlottetown. Bowden picked up 27 points and 8 rebounds on Saturday versus Acadia and added 18 points and 13 rebounds in Sundays game versus Mount Allison.
The Hurricanes went 1-2 in the three weekend games. They continue their pre-season by visiting Cape Breton University for an exhibition tournament at the Centre 200 on October 25th to 27th.
Bowden is a Sport & Leisure Management student at Holland College.
