The men’s and women’s Hurricanes basketball teams are on the road to nationals; the men on their way to Squamish, British Columbia while the women make their way to Saint-Lambert, Quebec.

The men’s Hurricanes kick things off on Thursday at 5:30pm (Atlantic Time) versus the Vanier Cheetahs.

As Thursdays men’s game wraps up you will be able to switch over and tune into our women’s basketball teams first ever nationals game at 7:30pm (Atlantic Time) as they take on the Algonquin Thunder.

The women’s Hurricanes finished with an ACAA silver medal this season after falling to the STU Tommies in the finals; the medal was the first in the programs history.

“We are really excited for our first game of the tournament, we are happy with the matchup and feel that we have a good chance to pull out a win if we play our game and remain focused”, said second year player Steph Hiltz from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

The Hurricanes enter the tournament sitting at number six in the CCAA national rankings.

The Algonquin Thunder was this season’s OCAA women’s basketball champions, holding a 16-0 record during the regular season.

‘Canes head coach Mike Connolly is eager to get the tournament started.

“I like our first round matchup with Algonquin. We have a good scouring report on them and feel we can take advantage of some of the areas where we have an edge.”

The winner of Thursday evening’s game will advance to the CCAA semi-finals on Friday at 9:30pm (Atlantic Time) against the winner of the Champlain Cavaliers and St. Thomas Tommies game.

The loser will play at 4pm on Friday.

All CCAA nationals’ games can be watched live at www.sportscanada.tv while the Hurricanes will be covered through www.facebook.com/hollandhurricanes and www.twitter.com/hc_hurricanes with game updates.
