Hurricanes men’s soccer earn two ties; women’s team picks up a tie and loss over weekend

Saturday – Holland Hurricanes 1 @ MSVU Mystics 3
The Holland Hurricanes travelled to Halifax this past weekend for ACAA regular season games starting with a matchup versus the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics on Saturday. This was the second time this season that these teams clashed; previously the two met in their season openers in Cornwall which ended in a 2-2 tie.
In Saturday’s game MSVU struck early in the 2’ of the game when Emily Rake scored the Mystics first goal. The game was very evenly matched and in the 44’ of the game the Hurricanes Rebecca Levy evened the game at 1-1 going into halftime.
With the game tied both teams worked hard to create some offensive chances. MSVU’s Danielle Cyr potted 2 goals for the Mystics in the 66’ and 77’ to give them the 3-1 victory.
Sunday – Holland Hurricanes 2 @ UKC Blue Devils 2
On Sunday the Hurricanes took on the first place University of King’s College Blue Devils. In the previous matchup between these two teams the Hurricanes fell 2-0.
In Sunday’s game the ‘Canes Kristin Hood found the back of the net early to give them the early 1-0 lead in the 29’. The Hurricanes would head to the locker room for halftime with the lead.
In the second half the Blue Devils Mo Comeau scored off of a header to tie the game at 1-1 and they would strike again when Claris Eigueira scored to give UKC the 2-1 lead.
The ‘Canes would not sit back however, in the 73’ Kristin Hood would score her second of the game to tie the game 2-2. Teams would exchange chances for the remaining tie but in the end the two teams settled for the tie. UKC went on to outshoot Holland College 10-6 in the game.
With the tie the Hurricanes now sit in fourth place in the ACAA standings with a 3-3-2 record.
Saturday – Holland Hurricanes 0 @ MSVU Mystics 0
The men’s Hurricanes visited the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics on Saturday for an evening road game, the previous matchup between these two teams seen the game end in a 0-0 tie.
This game had much of the same. Goal keepers Andrew Mason of MSVU and Logan Doiron of the ‘Canes played strong games as the game went the full 90 minutes and ended in a scoreless tie.
Sunday – Holland Hurricanes 0 @ UKC Blue Devils 0
On Sunday the Hurricanes took on the first place, University of Kings College Blue Devils in Halifax. The Hurricanes and Blue Devils tied in their previous matchup 1-1 earlier in the season.
In this game the UKC Blue Devils outshot the Hurricanes 9-7 over ninety minutes but neither team was able to find the back of the net. The game would end in a 0-0 tie.
With the two ties over the weekend the Hurricanes now sit in a tie for third place in the ACAA regular season standings with a 2-1-5 record.
Next up for the men’s and women’s soccer Hurricanes will be a road game this Wednesday, October 2nd in Truro as they take on the Dalhousie Agricultural College Rams for games at 6pm (women’s) and 8pm (men’s).
