Holland Hurricanes preparing for big weekend
February 21, 2014
The Junior Hurricanes Men’s Hockey team is also in action this weekend for two away games. Saturday will see the fourth place Arsenault’s Fish Mart Red Wings hosting the fifth places Holland Hurricanes Junior Hurricanes at 7 p.m. at the Evangeline Recreation Centre in Abram’s Village.
Sunday will see the ‘Canes hitting the ice against the Kensington Vipers at the Community Gardens Arena Complex in Kensington. Game begins at 7 p.m. The Vipers are currently in first place with a 25-5 record, while Holland College has a 7-18 record. This will be the ‘Canes last game before the playoffs begin next month.
Another big weekend is in store for the Holland Hurricanes as the basketball teams will see action on Saturday against the St. Thomas University Tommies and then on Sunday versus the Dalhousie Agricultural College Rams at the Centre for Community Engagement.
This is the final weekend of home games as both teams are preparing for the ACAA Championships which will be held from February 28th to March 2nd in Truro hosted by the Dal-AC Rams.
The women’s Hurricanes are going to have their hands full with the STU Tommies, currently sitting in first place in the ACAA league, with a 18-0 record and ranked second in the country by the CCAA. These teams have met twice before with the Tommies taking both victories. The Hurricanes have proven that they are not a team to be counted out as they sit solidly in second place in the ACAA standings going into this weekend with a 17-2 record, and are nationally ranked at #10.
Sunday’s games against the Dal-AC Rams should be an easy way for the Hurricanes to end regular season play as the Rams have struggled this year and are currently sitting in seventh place in the ACAA standings. The last two times that these teams took the court were easy victories for the ‘Canes.
On the men’s side, Saturday’s game against the STU Tommies will be the third and final matchup for these two teams. Both previous games have seen the Hurricanes come out on top. The STU Tommies are sitting in fourth place with a 12-7 record.
On Sunday, the Dal-AC Rams men’s team will be looking to improve their last place position in the ACAA standings, but if the previous two games between these teams is any indication, the ‘Canes will be triumphant once again.
The Hurricanes men’s team is currently sitting in third place going into this weekend with a 15-4 record, trailing the Crandall Chargers with a 16-3 record and the MSVU Mystics with a 16-4 record. Currently, the Hurricanes are ranked 9th in the country by the CCAA.
Game times for both days are 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men).
