Holland Hurricanes land men’s volleyball recruit
April 29, 2014
The 2014-2015 ACAA season is going to be huge for Holland College and men’s volleyball on PEI as the Holland Hurricanes are set to host the 2015 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship in February at Holland College’s Centre for Community Engagement.
Head coach Joe Ryan is pleased to announce that Darcie Handrahan from Alberton, PEI will suit up for the Hurricanes in the fall.
“If Darcie can be the player that he was back at WestIsle in high school and at the Canada Games in 2009, we will be in tremendous shape”, shared Ryan.
“Darcie will bring his experience and leadership to a group of players who may be quite young, but very talented. We will need to rely on Darcie to be a leader on this team.”
Handrahan is a 6’ 4” left-side hitter who was a two-time PEI high school all-star, a starting member of the 2009 Canada Games volleyball team and was a very highly recruited player out of high school.
Handrahan feels up to the challenges that come with hosting a national championship.
“With Holland College hosting nationals it is a very exciting opportunity; I can’t wait to be a part of the buzz and anticipation leading up to the tournament. I’m proud to be a member of the ‘Canes and having the privilege of representing Holland College in a major event. I look forward to the start of training camp and having a successful season with the Hurricanes”.
Coach Ryan has his sights set on the best recruits available in preparation for the upcoming season.
“Over the past number of years, this program has evolved into a contender and this coming season I feel we will have the talent to not only be a competitive host of nationals, but to compete hard in our conference and have a chance to go into the nationals as conference champions.”
