BBALL | Men advance to semi-finals, women’s semi-final opponent determined

The Holland College Hurricanes basketball teams will both be playing in the ACAA Championships semi-finals on Saturday after the men defeated the Dal AC Rams 96-63 in quarterfinal action on Friday in Sackville, NB.

The ‘Canes jumped out to a 30-15 lead after the first quarter and would take a 56-21 lead into the locker rooms at the half. The ‘Canes would then coast the rest of the way en route to the victory.

Trenity Burdine was named player of the game. He scored 18 points in the win to lead all Hurricanes scorers.

Michael-Ange Kayeye scored 14 while Roosevelt Whyley and Chase Bowden each scored 12 points. Chidi Majok was the other Hurricanes player to pick up double-digit point totals with ten.

The ‘Canes will play the top seeded MSVU Mystics in the ACAA semi-finals on Saturday after the third seeded Crandall Chargers defeated the STU Tommies 77-63 in the other quarterfinal on Friday. The Chargers will take on the Mount Allison Mounties in Saturday’s other semi-final game (8pm).

Saturday’s men’s Hurricanes semi-final game versus the Mystics takes place at 6pm.

On the women’s side, the Hurricanes will play the St. Thomas University after the Tommies defeated the UKC Blue Devils 68-61 in Friday’s quarter-final action.

Game time is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday.

In the other women’s quarterfinal, the Mount Allison Mounties defeated the UNBSJ Seawolves by a score of 82-62.

The Mounties will play the MSVU Mystics on Saturday at 3:00 PM in the other semi-final.

ACAA Championship games are set for Sunday with the women’s game at 1:00 PM and the men’s game at 3:30 PM.
