BBALL | Hurricanes to host UNBSJ and UKC in weekend action

The Holland College Hurricanes basketball teams will be in action at the Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown this weekend as the UNBSJ Seawolves come to town on Saturday followed by the UKC Blue Devils on Sunday.
The Hurricanes, the 2017 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship hosts, will be looking to start a new winning streak after splitting a pair of games last weekend in Halifax.
The ‘Canes currently lead the ACAA in points per game, assists per game, steals per game and blocks per game.
Individually, Trenity Burdine and Roosevelt Whyley sit second and third in the conference scoring race with 19.7 and 18.1 points averaged per game respectively.
The Hurricanes currently sit in fourth place with an 8-7 record while UNBSJ is in a three-way tie for the sixth at 4-12; the Blue Devils are just in front of them in fifth place at 5-12.
The ‘Canes have taken both matchups from the Seawolves this season as they picked up wins on January 21 and 22 in Saint John. The ‘Canes have split two games with UKC this season, picking up a win in their most recent game on February 5 in Halifax.
Both games are scheduled to tip off at 4:00 PM.
The women’s ‘Canes will be looking to keep their momentum going after picking up a pair of road wins last weekend, including one over the MSVU Mystics.
The ‘Canes currently lead the ACAA in points per game, assists per game and have given up the second fewest points per game in the conference.
Individually, Jayla Verney leads the conference in scoring with 18.5 points per game. Tyleigha Nelson sits sixth in rebounds per game and fourth in blocks per game.
The Hurricanes lead the conference with a 13-1 record while the Seawolves are in sixth with a 2-11 record and the Blue Devils are in fifth with a record of 5-10.
The ‘Canes have taken both matchups from the Seawolves and Blue Devils this season. The ‘Canes were victorious over UNBSJ on January 21 and 22 in Saint John and defeated the Blue Devils on November 12 and February 5 in Halifax.
Both games are scheduled to tip off at 2:00 PM.
