BBALL | Hurricanes to host Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday

BBALLFEB18POSTERThe Holland College Hurricanes basketball teams will host the Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement before the men travel to Truro, NS on Sunday to take on the Dal AC Rams.

The Hurricanes, the 2017 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship hosts, enter the weekend with a 10-7 record and 20 points which has them in fourth place in the conference and two points out of third place.

The men’s Hurricanes currently lead the league in points per game, rebounds, per game, assists per game, steals per game and blocks per game while also allowing the third fewest points per game in the ACAA.

Individually the ‘Canes are led by the duo of Trenity Burdine and Roosevelt Whyley who sit first and third in the conference scoring race with 19.6 and 18.1 points per game respectively.

The Mounties enter play with a 15-2 record which has them sitting second in the conference while the Rams are in a tie for fifth with a 5-14 record.

Game time on Saturday is set for 4:00 PM while tip-off on Sunday is set for 2:30 PM.

The women’s ‘Canes will look to keep their run of strong play going after picking up a pair of home wins last weekend.

The ‘Canes currently lead the conference in points per game, assists per game, and steals per game while allowing the second fewest points per game in the ACAA.

Individually, Jayla Verney leads the conference in scoring with 18.6 points per game while Tyleigha Nelson is sixth in rebounds per game and blocks per game; Verney is also third in assists per game.

The Hurricanes lead the conference with a 15-1 record which has them in first place in the ACAA. The Mounties enter play in third place with an 8-6 record.

Game time is set for 2:00 PM on Saturday.
