Basketball Hurricanes hit road for final game of 2013
November 28, 2013
The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams will travel to Sackville, New Brunswick for their final game of 2013 when they take on the Mount Allison Mounties at 2 pm (women’s) and 4 pm (men’s).
The women’s Hurricanes have been playing especially well lately as they now sit in ninth position in the CCAA national women’s basketball rankings with a 5-1 record on the season. The Mount Allison Mounties currently hold a record of 3-2 on the season. This will be the first time these two teams play each other this season.
Head coach Mike Connolly is excited for the challenge that this game brings.
“To finish the first semester at 6-1 and maintain our National ranking would be huge for us. We are preparing hard for what we know will be a tough game. Being consistent with defensive intensity will be the key to success.”
The men’s Hurricanes are coming off of a weekend split with the Crandall Chargers and will look to get back on track versus the 3-2 Mounties. The Hurricanes currently sit in second place in the ACAA standings with a 4-2 record and are also ranked nationally, sitting at eighth in the CCAA national rankings.
Last week’s Hurricanes male Athlete of the Week Jake Kendrick had this to say about Sunday’s game.
“Mount Allison is a very good team in our league and we have to be ready to play. Our team has shown flashes of very good basketball so far this year and we just need to put one of those together where we play for a full 40 minutes. We’re going to need to play well in order to go into the break with another win.”
Both games on Sunday from Sackville are available to watch live at www.acaatv.ca.
