Baseball Hurricanes punch ticket to Conference Championship series

_MG_1569The Holland Hurricanes were at their best on Saturday at home in the conference semi-final playoff series versus the Saint Mary’s Huskies at Memorial Field at Victoria Park.

The ‘Canes picked up back-to-back wins to sweep the series and advance to the conference championship series for the second time in team history.

Brady Arsenault allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out five as he picked up the win on the mound in the Hurricanes 12-1 game one victory. Logan Dowe would enter the game in the final inning to pick up two strikeouts for the Hurricanes.

Five run’s in the first, one in the second, two in the third and four more in the fourth would give the Hurricanes their 12 runs off of 11 hits in the game.

Jay Oram and Kyle Donahoe each had two RBI’s in the game which saw seven different Hurricanes batters pick up at-least one RBI in the win.

In game two the ‘Canes continued where they left off in game one.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning the Hurricanes scored two in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth and six in the fifth to earn the 12-2 win.

Colby Lyle pitched the complete game for Holland College allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out six and walking three.

The ‘Canes offence was fuelled by a four RBI game by Jed Noonan while Dillon Doucette picked up three and Jesse Holman two.

With the win the Holland Hurricanes will host the University of New Brunswick in the conference championship series beginning Saturday for games one and two of the best of three series at Memorial Field at Victoria Park. Game one begins at 1pm with game two following at 3:30pm.

UNB advanced to the finals by sweeping Acadia 10-0 and 2-0 in Fredericton on Saturday.

This is the second time that the Hurricanes have appeared in the conference championship series in three years; the last time was in 2014 when the ‘Canes defeated UNB in two games in their inaugural season.
