Barrett and Kendrick chosen as Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Basketball players Janea Barrett and Jake Kendrick have been chosen as the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 19.
Barrett, a guard in the Sport & Leisure Management program from Toronto, Ontario joined the Hurricanes after the Christmas break and has instantly made an impact with the team.
On Saturday versus the STU Tommies Barrett led the Hurricanes with 14 points, seven rebounds and shot seven-for-ten from the field.
On Sunday in Saint John versus the Seawolves Barrett went on to score 14 points to go along with her eight rebounds in the game.
The women’s Hurricanes team were defeated in Fredericton on Saturday but rebounded with a 96-65 victory on Sunday versus the UNBSJ Seawolves. The Hurricanes sit in second place in the ACAA standings with a 9-2 record and were placed at number eight in last weeks CCAA national women’s basketball rankings.
Kendrick, a guard from Wolfville, Nova Scotia is a second year Sport & Leisure Management student at Holland College.
Jake led the Hurricanes offensively to two victories this weekend versus the STU Tommies and UNBSJ Seawolves.
On Saturday Kendrick scored 23 points versus the Tommies and shot seven-for-nine from the field while on Sunday he scored 21 points in the game.
The men’s Hurricanes went 2-0 on the weekend with a win over the STU Tommies followed by a 96-66 victory in Sunday’s game in Saint John.
The Hurricanes currently sit at 9-2 on the season and hold the seventh place in the CCAA national rankings as well as the number two position in the ACAA standings.
The basketball Hurricanes continue their season this weekend with two road games, first on Saturday in Truro versus the Dalhousie Agricultural College Rams and on Sunday in Sackville versus the Mt. Allison Mounties.
