BAD | Hurricanes finish second at ACAA Event in Truro

_MG_1388The Holland College Hurricanes badminton team picked up a second place finish at the fourth ACAA event of the season last weekend which was hosted by the Dal AC Rams in Truro, NS.

Joining the Hurricanes at the event were the Mount Allison Mounties, UKC Blue Devils, Dal AC Rams and Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons.

In men’s singles A competition, Josh Watkins went 2-2 with wins over UKC and USA while in singles B action Jonah Wilton also went 2-2 with wins over UKC and Dal AC. The Hurricanes earned a combined ten points in men’s singles play.

In women’s singles A action Maggie Renouf went 1-3 with a win over Dal AC while Rachel Wang finished at 3-1 in single B action picking up wins over UKC, Dal AC, and USA. The Hurricanes earned a combined ten points in women’s singles play.

In men’s A doubles David Cozens and Larry Liang went 2-2 with wins over UKC and USA while in men’s B doubles Josh Watkins and Jordan Wisener were 2-1 with wins over Dal AC and USA. The Hurricanes earned a combined 12 points in men’s doubles play.

In women’s A doubles Emma Hughes and Kristyn Visser went undefeated with a 4-0 record defeating Mount Allison, UKC, Dal AC, and USA while in doubles B action, Maggie Renouf and Rachel Wang picked up wins over UKC and Dal AC to finish 2-2. The Hurricanes earned a combined 15 points in women’s doubles play.

In mixed A doubles, David Cozens and Kristyn Visser went 2-2 with wins over UKC and USA while Jordan Wisener and Emma Hughes went 2-2 in mixed doubles B action with wins over UKC and USA. The Hurricanes earned a combined ten points in mixed doubles play.

In total the ‘Canes finished with 57 points which put them in second place behind the Mount Allison Mounties (91). Dal AC finished in third (49) while Universite de Sainte-Anne finished in fourth (42) and UKC in fifth (20).

The Hurricanes will return to action on February 11 in Sackville, NB in the fifth ACAA event of the season hosted by the Mount Allison Mounties.
