ATOW | Zinck and Burdine named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Basketball players Darcy Zinck and Trenity Burdine have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 15.
Zinck, a fifth year guard from Halifax, NS, in her first year with the Hurricanes, helped the ‘Canes pick up a pair of big victories this weekend over the Crandall Chargers and MSVU Mystics.
On Saturday, in a 109-49 victory over the Chargers, Zinck recorded 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one steal, and five three-pointers made.
On Sunday, in a 78-55 win over the Mystics who entered play ranked third in the country by the CCAA, Zinck recorded a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. She also had two assists and two steals.
Zinck logged big minutes all weekend against the opponents starting forwards and was able to shut them down.
Zinck currently studies in the Practical Nursing program.
The women’s Hurricanes currently have a record of 8-1 and sit in first place in the ACAA while being ranked number seven in the country in the CCAA.
The women’s basketball ‘Canes hit the road next weekend to take on the UNBSJ Seawolves; game times are 4:00 PM on Saturday and 3:00 PM on Sunday.
Burdine, a fifth year forward from Reading, PA, USA, in his first year with Holland College, led the ‘Canes to a pair of close victories this weekend against the Chargers and Mystics.
On Saturday, in a 104-98 win over the Chargers, Burdine recorded 28 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.
On Sunday, in a 101-97 win over the Mystics, Burdine scored 14 points in the first quarter helping the ‘Canes to a 34-9 lead. Burdine would finish with 27 points, five rebounds, two assists, one block and six three-pointers made.
Burdine currently studies in the Heritage Retrofit Carpentry program.
The men’s Hurricanes currently have a record of 9-0 and sit in first place in the ACAA while also being ranked number one in the country by the CCAA. The ‘Canes will host the 2017 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championships in March at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
The men’s basketball ‘Canes hit the road next weekend to take on the UNBSJ Seawolves at 6:00 PM on Saturday and 5:00 PM on Sunday.
