AOTW | States and Murphy named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Volleyball players Brittany States and Tynan Murphy have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 8.
States, a first year middle hitter from Bathurst, New Brunswick helped the ‘Canes to a pair of victories on the road this weekend over the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons and the Dal AC Rams.
On Saturday, in a 3-1 victory over the Dragons, States recorded four kills, two aces, four digs, and three blocks while on Sunday she recorded five kills, two aces, three digs, and six blocks in a straight sets win over the Rams.
States currently studies in the Business Administration program.
The women’s Hurricanes currently have a record of 10-1 on the season and sit in first place in the ACAA while being ranked #9 in the country by the CCAA.
The ‘Canes next game is Saturday January 14, 2017 as they host the Rams at 12:30 PM at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
Murphy, a second year right side hitter from Montague, PEI led the ‘Canes to a pair of straight set victories on the weekend over the Université Sainte-Anne Dragons.
On Saturday, Murphy recorded seven kills, two aces, seven digs, and four blocks, while on Sunday, he had six kills, one ace, four digs, and two blocks as the ‘Canes won all six sets they played on the weekend.
Murphy currently studies in the Bioscience program.
The men Hurricanes currently sit in first place in the ACAA with a 6-2 record and entered weekend play ranked #14 in the country by the CCAA.
The ‘Canes will be back in action on Saturday January 14 and Sunday January 15, 2017 as they host the UNBSJ Seawolves at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement. Game times are 7 PM on Saturday and 11:30 AM on Sunday.
