AOTW | Leidenius and Ward named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

October 3, 2017

Hurricanes golfers Daria Leidenius and Jacob Ward have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 1.

Leidenius, a second year player for the Hurricanes from Ponoka, Alberta, was crowned the individual ACAA women’s champion this weekend during the conference championships at the Links at Crowbush Cove.

Her rounds of 88 and 89 in extremely difficult scoring conditions was good enough for a 14-stroke victory as the players battled cold temperatures, high winds and a difficult golf course for 36-holes.

This is Leidenius fifth victory and first conference championship of her career.  She is currently studying in the Golf Club Management program.

Ward, a third year player from Burton, New Brunswick, finished in a tie for second place individually this weekend at the ACAA Championships.

An opening round of 73 gave him the first round lead before his second round score of 80; in the end he finished just two strokes back of the overall winner.

Ward led the Hurricanes to a second place team finish in the tournament.  He is currently enrolled in the Professional Golf Management program.

The Hurricanes will now turn their attention towards the PING CCAA National Golf Championships in Oshawa, Ontario hosted by the Durham College Lords at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club.  The tournament takes place October 15-21.
