Health Safety and Environmental Practices
This course will introduce learners to the best practices used in industry today to assure the continued health and safety of workers and the public at large and the protection of the environment. Changes in provincial and federal legislation require diligence on the part of employers and workers to assure work is completed with the minimum of acceptable risk. Learners will use risk assessment tools in the completion of simple tasks and the development of job safety analysis for complex tasks. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation will be explored and incident investigation techniques will be introduced. Students will also learn basic First Aid, CPR and WHMIS.

Elevated Work Practices
Elevated Work Practices
Workers in the wind energy industry are required to work at heights during their normal duties. This course will allow students to develop this key skill set. Students will understand the theory of fall protection, be introduced to the equipment required for safe work, and will demonstrate competency with the equipment while performing work. Students will also be involved with developing a rescue plan and demonstrate competency in the extraction of an injured worker using the rescue plan.

On-the-job training provides students with an opportunity to relate what they have learned in the classroom and lab to a work environment. Students will be expected to assume the duties normally expected of an entry-level person in a similar position with appropriate supervision. The exposure to and interaction with the various trades and professions within the wind energy sector provides students with an invaluable experience that will serve to enhance their overall learning.

Blueprint Reading and Sketching
This course introduces students to blueprint reading and sketching. Reading of construction and engineering drawings is a core skill for technicians in the wind energy sector. Students will work with various types of technical drawings and specification packages. Students will be able to estimate materials and timelines from drawing packages. In addition, students will be able to create simple sketches using standard drawing implements.

Computer Literacy
This course is designed to provide learners with a basic introduction to computer hardware and commonly used software systems. Upon completion, learners will be able to effectively use electronic mail and word processing software and apply file management techniques. Learners will also be introduced to spreadsheet software to create, track and update data. Using the spreadsheet's calculating functions, learners will create estimates, invoices, financial tables and various charts.

Electrical Distribution
Electrical Distribution
This course is designed to give students an understanding of modern electrical distribution systems. Students will explore metering methods and the technologies used by utilities to track electrical energy generation and demands. Electrical energy consumption by different types of loads (capacitive, inductive, resistive) and their effects on distribution system frequency, voltage, and losses will be explored. Distribution architectures are compared and contrasted as well as switching configurations used in the wind energy sector.

Wind Turbine Rotor System Inspection and Repair
This course will allow students to develop the skill sets necessary to perform inspections and repairs on a variety of blade materials used on modern wind turbine rotor systems. Students will practice non-destructive testing (NDT) on blades as well as complete minor repairs using a variety of polymer and fiber sheet materials. Heat and chemical curing techniques will be explored as they apply to wind turbine rotor systems.
