Holland College and the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) are jointly offering a Certificate in Adult Education (CAE) and Bachelor in Education Degree in Human Resource Development, B.Ed (HRD).

The B.Ed (HRD) requires 120 semester hours of credit (normally 40 courses). This program recognizes applicant's prior learning and work experience through a Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process. Upon successful completion of 12 courses, applicants may apply for the joint Holland College/UPEI Certificate in Adult Education (CAE) which qualifies them for employment in community colleges and high school technology education programs.

Both the B.Ed (HRD) and the CAE may be completed on a part-time basis by participating in Saturday or weekday evening classes. Four courses are typically offered in each of the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer terms. Video-conference and on-line courses are planned for the near future.

These B.Ed (HRD) and CAE programs are designed for:

  • Adult educators who teach either at post-secondary institutions such as community colleges or, business or industry organizations
  • Public school vocational and technology teachers. Qualified graduates of this program may apply to the PEI Department of Education for a Technology Education Teaching Licence to teach technology education in PEI high schools
  • Adult educators who are teaching in countries outside of Canada
  • Technology/Vocational or Home Economics teachers wanting professional development or credit for salary increase.

In addition to the B.Ed (HRD) and CAE programs, UPEI and Holland College offer certificate programs for technology / vocational teachers and home economics teachers. These courses are recognized by the PEI Department of Education and can be applied to the B.Ed (HRD) or can be used for professional development and salary increase purposes.
