What are Holland College’s mandatory vaccination requirements?

To minimize disruption of classes and to protect the safety of the Holland College community, all students, faculty, and staff are required to be fully vaccinated by Friday, October 15, 2021 by means of an authorized Health Canada COVID-19 vaccine. You can review Holland College's policy here.

Why is full vaccination mandatory at Holland College?

Our programs are best delivered in person, on site, in our classrooms and labs. It is our hope that by requiring mandatory vaccination, we will avoid an outbreak of COVID-19 at the college, which, in addition to putting our community at risk, could result in the suspension of in-class learning and a return to alternative types of program delivery.

What does “fully vaccinated” mean?

You are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving your second dose of an approved vaccine, or 14 days after being vaccinated with Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine, which is a single dose vaccine.

What happens if I don’t have my second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by October 15?

Individuals who have not been fully vaccinated by the deadline of October 15 will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, and should email vaccines@hollandcollege.com to discuss their situation.

Although I will have received both my vaccinations by October 15, I will not have completed the 14-day waiting period that follows the second vaccine. Am I still allowed on Holland College premises?

In order to be considered fully vaccinated, you need to wait 14 days after your second vaccination. If this will not be completed before October 15, notify the college by sending an email to vaccines@hollandcollege.com to ensure that we are aware of your vaccination status. You will most likely be advised that you will need to wear a mask at all times while on campus or in a Holland College centre until you have completed the 14-day waiting period.

Where and when can I get vaccinated?

Most vaccination clinics are now accepting walk-in clients, or you can make an appointment at a clinic or pharmacy. For a list of clinics, visit this page. Additionally, the college will post information about on-site vaccination clinics when they are scheduled.

I have only had one vaccination. Do I need to get a second vaccination before I come to Holland College?

You must be fully vaccinated by October 15. This means that you will need to have your second vaccination on or before October 1 in order to fulfil the two-week post-vaccination requirement. For a list of clinics and locations, visit this page

Do I still need to wear a mask after I’m fully vaccinated?

Yes. Effective Friday, September 17, all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, MUST wear a non-medical mask or face covering when physical distancing of 2 meters (6 feet) cannot be realized.

Do I still need to complete self-screening before entering a Holland College building?

While full vaccination significantly reduces your chances of contracting COVID-19 and lessens the severity of symptoms if you do contract, you should still perform the self-screening prior to entering Holland College buildings. The self-assessment is posted at all designated entry points and is modeled after information available from the PEI Chief Public Health Office. The assessment is made up of the following questions:

  1. Do you have any of the following symptoms consistent with COVID-19?
    • new or worsening cough
    • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • fever or chills
    • sore throat
    • runny nose, sneezing, congestion
    • headache or muscle aches
    • unusual fatigue
    • acute loss of sense of smell or taste
  1. Are you currently required to self-isolate?

  2. In the last 14 days, have you been in contact with a person who has a confirmed case of COVID-19?

If you answer “YES” to any of these questions you are NOT permitted to enter and must immediately contact your learning manager or supervisor by phone or e-mail.

How will the college verify that I have been vaccinated?

An email was sent to your Holland College account with a link to the declaration form. If you have already completed the form, you do not need to complete it again. If you cannot find the link, you can access the form here. If you are unable to provide verification of your vaccinations, contact vaccines@hollandcollege.com.

How will my vaccination information be used?

The information and any supporting documents that you are required to submit will be used to determine and address whether you adequately fulfilled the requirements of the Holland College COVID-19 vaccination mandate.  The information will only be disclosed to individuals who are required to know this information as part of their duties as an employee of Holland College.

What if the vaccine that I have received is not approved by Health Canada?

The vaccine that you received must be a COVID-19 vaccine authorized Health Canada.

How do I obtain an exemption to the mandatory vaccination requirement?

Exemptions will only be granted based on a confirmed medical condition, for a genuine and sincere religious or cultural belief, or in consideration of another protected ground consistent with the PEI Human Rights Act which prohibits the individual from obtaining a COVID-19 vaccination. You can download the exemption form here. If you are a student, complete the form and deliver it to the Registrar's Office. If you are an employee, deliver it to the Human Resources department. If you believe you meet the requirements for a cultural or religious exemption please contact vaccines@hollandcollege.com

If I obtain an exemption, do I have to wear a mask in locations where I can physically distance from other people?

Yes. Students, faculty and staff who are NOT fully vaccinated and have an approved exemption:

  1. MUST wear a non-medical mask or face covering at all times while in a Holland College facility, with the following exceptions:
    • brief removal while eating or drinking
    • in their personal residence room
    • in their personal office (without guest)
  2. MUST effective October 15, 2021 provide Holland College with a negative COVID-19 test on a weekly basis at seven-day intervals, or at other such times as directed by the college;
  3. May be within 6 feet of others with MANDATORY mask use in the following academic and assembly settings:
    • classrooms
    • labs & academic based shops
    • residence common rooms

Can I obtain an exemption if I plan to play on a varsity sports team?

No. To play varsity sports, you must be fully vaccinated.

I am not vaccinated and don't intend to be vaccinated. Can I still attend class if I wear a mask?

If you are a student who is not vaccinated and does not have an exemption, you should contact vaccines@hollandcollege.com to discuss your options. If you are an employee who is not vaccinated and does not have an exemption, you should notify hr@hollandcollege.com immediately.
